Abigail
Hickman

PT

Abigail is originally from Suffolk, VA. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2021 with a degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise with a minor in psychology. She originally went to school to be a dietitian, then changed plans when she realized the positive impact physical therapists could have in others' lives. Abigail went on to do her doctoral of physical therapy program at Emory and Henry, graduating in 2024. She fell in love with Southwest Virginia, and is grateful to be able to serve and get to know the community. She has treated all ages whether orthopedic or neurological, and has a special interest in working with people affected by Parkinson's disease or Parkinsonism. She received her LSVT BIG certification while in graduate school.

More about Abigail

What is your primary clinical interest/passion?

My primary interest/passion is working with people with Parkinson's disease and balance issues! I have an LSVT BIG certification to work with people with Parkinson's disease as well. I am willing to work with anyone though and am honored to be a part of their journey.

What do you enjoy about Professional Rehab Associates?

I love professional rehab associates and am grateful to be a part of the team! They are one of the largest outpatient physical therapy facilities I have seen in southwest Virginia and have unique equipment to utilize with many patients. There is so much opportunity to have a lot of fun in therapy!

Do you have further clinical plans for growth for you or the business?

I plan on continuing my education and may complete more certifications in the future, but I want to know the needs in the community prior to choosing.

What experience do you have? (i.e., years, training, focus, certification)

I did 3 12-week rotations and just graduated with my DPT in August 2024 from Emory and Henry University. I am LSVT certified and have done continuing education specifically for runners.

What are your hobbies and outside interests?

Some hobbies include: hiking, running, volleyball, making coffee, and petting dogs.
