8 Tips to Help You Spring into Action During Move More Month
It's time to “spring” into action and move your body more! April is Move More Month, bringing extra awareness to how much we exercise throughout the day. Now, before you roll your eyes and shuffle back to your cozy spot on the couch (or get back to answering that email at your desk), hear us out!
Move More Month isn't about forcing ourselves into grueling workout routines or morphing into fitness fanatics overnight. It's all about taking small steps (literally!) to inject a bit more movement and joy into our daily lives. With the sun shining a bit brighter and the flowers starting to bloom, there's never been a better time to embrace the great outdoors and get those endorphins flowing. Finding it difficult to find new ways to get moving throughout your busy day? We’ve got you covered with these ten simple tips!
Eight tips to move more this month:
1. Go for a walk on your lunch break
Taking a walk during your lunch break not only helps to break up the monotony of the workday but also provides a refreshing mental break, allowing you to return to your tasks with renewed focus and energy. This is also a simple way to get your steps in during the day!
2. Do stretches at your desk
Stuck at your desk all day? Incorporate some desk stretches and exercises into your routine to keep your body active and your muscles engaged. Simple stretches, leg lifts, or even desk push-ups (just make sure your desk is sturdy) can make a big difference in getting your body moving throughout the day.
3. Start a step challenge with fRIends
This is a fun one! Who doesn't love a little healthy competition (pun intended). Team up with some friends, a family member or a coworker who understands your fitness goals. Having someone to keep you accountable and motivated can make all the difference in sticking to your active lifestyle. Making exercise a friendly competition can also be a great motivator!
You can track your steps using your smartphone, smart watch or Fitbit. Set a target step goal for the day, week or month, and then get walking.
4. Mix it up
Variety is the spice of life, right? Don't limit yourself to one activity. Try out different exercises like yoga, swimming, hiking, or even a fun Zumba class to keep things interesting. With warmer weather right around the corner, a hike or walking on a nature trail are all great ways to incorporate a little more exercise into your life. It's all about finding something new that excites you.
5. make tv time active Time
Instead of lounging on the couch during TV time, challenge yourself to do some simple exercises like squats, lunges, or planks while you watch your favorite shows. It's a win-win! In the age of streaming, there aren't always commercials, but find 3-5 minutes before starting that next episode to do a lap around the living room or some push-ups.
6. Explore outdoor activities
Take advantage of the great outdoors, especially with the warmer weather. Explore activities like hiking, biking, or swimming. Not only are they excellent forms of exercise, but they also allow you to soak up some Vitamin D and enjoy nature.
You can also take some time to do some much-needed weeding in your flower beds or picking up around your yard.
7. take the long way
Whether you're walking to the store or heading to a meeting, take the scenic route and opt for the longer path. It's a great way to add more steps to your day without even realizing it. Just make sure to plan ahead so you aren't late.
8. join a fitness class or program
Whether it's yoga, Zumba, or kickboxing, find a fitness class that interests you and commit to attending regularly. Not only will you get a great workout, but you'll also meet new people and have fun in the process.
